The process begins with sourcing roasted beans from local Melbourne roasters and utilizing a commercial coffee machine to extract the coffee exactly as your local café would. How does this differ from traditional instant coffee? Firstly, we use local Melbourne specialty coffee roasters – enough said. Secondly, freeze-drying keeps the flavors of the coffee and allows the aromas and notes to go untouched. As we work with small batch roasters, we are able to trace exactly what beans are being used and unlike other commercial instant coffee brands – who might not even use water to extract their coffee – some even use chemicals!

How does it compare to your pod coffee? The main difference between a home pod machine and a café grade coffee machine is similar to using a manual screwdriver and electric drill – the latter will have more pressure to create a more luscious coffee. Because our process involves extracting the coffee on a commercial grade machine before freeze drying to retain the flavors, you are getting a cafe grade coffee shot to add to your milk. In addition, used pods end up in landfill whereas Homebrew leaves no waste behind but just a lovely cup of joe.
